We have had an interesting week here...I wanted to keep our families updated.
We celebrated my entrance into a 33rd year. yikes! My honey counting the candles to make sure he got them all accounted for. Loves to rub it in several times a year that he is a whole 15 months younger than his wife. What a blessed life I have with him beside me. I couldnt have dreamed of this man. I love him so.
So Sunday morning, he took us hiking on the mountain. It was just a lovely day. Blue skies, cool winds, happy kids! What more could we ask for? We enjoyed being on the mountain for about 2 hours, before having a picnic lunch, cake and then heading back down. I snapped this picture of the trees and just thought to myself how beautiful they were, standing so tall.
We looked at what's left of the creeks.. mostly dry brush, warm waters and trickling streams.
Then on Sunday evening, we started to see smoke coming from the back side of the mtn.
We thought it was so strange b/c of how we had just been up there, enjoying it's beauty, then all the sudden it is in flames.
Monday afternoon we had a full blown forrest fire right here in our city, on our mountain :( It was quite unreal, and we have been watching, waiting, praying all week. I took lots of pictures for Josh. THis was the back road going to our home. The fire was named the Sheep Hearder Hill Fire.
It was really hard to tell where the smoke would go. We had very strong winds and heat, which was not good combination for the fires.
Our sweet little park ..
This was at 4 p.m. Monday afternoon, a picture of the flames behind that had moved to the face of the mountain. We were told to look out for wildlife, as they will come down the mtn. in attempt to escape the fire. So sad :(
Thankfully, after Monday evening, our temps got cooler and the wind stopped blowing, two great combinations that we were all hoping for. We had crews from Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Oregon to help local officials. It's always pretty neat to see how many people will come and assist and how people come together in situations like this.
Today, the fire is 50% contained, with approx. 15,000 acres that burned our mtn.
Happy Weekend to ALL!
We are getting excited about returning to the South next weekend to celebrate a BIG birthday ;) and in just another month returning again for my brother's WEDDING WEEKEND at my, Kara and Steven's Alma Mater!!!!!
