Getting ready for a big trip south to see family!!!! I thought I would catch up a bit before we go and share these pictures from last month and last weekend.
At the end of last month, we hopped in the car with Josh and headed to Montana. He had to be gone for several days so we tagged along. We drove north to Billings, and then across to Bozeman. On our third day in, we drove into Yellowstone from the North east entrance. This was the first official entrance into the park when it originally opened. Talk about foreign people! Everywhere. Where were all the Americans? It kind of made me realize how neat it is that we are getting all this time here. People truly come from all over the world to see this wonder. So here are the twins at the entrance to the park, ready to hike the falls.
We found an amazing perfect picnic spot, right above the Yellowstone River. It was a pretty chili day.
THis was right before that little rock climbing fanatic took off hiking around the area. We lost him for about 2 minutes, and my heart dropped to my feet, knowing that the river was steps away. If an adult who could swim fell in, it might be a miracle if they came out alive. Needless to say, i was a mess. We found him just about 100 yards away from the picnic spot, but he had gone on the other side of the hill, so we could not see him. He got a good talking too!
They then hiked down to the hill to see the rushing river, holding hands!!!!
Little lady spotted a black raven. The rangers give kids a map and a wildlife picture sheet, so they can check off the animals they see along the way.
This was a spot up from our picnic area that was wide open and somewhat surreal looking. There was NOTHING around us except some buffalo out to the right. We hiked about a half mile then turned around and headed for the falls.
Unfortunately, Josh has all the pictures from the Great Falls on his ipad. I will get those up soon.
Here we are on our way back home. We made a stop in Big Sky where they have a fabulous pizza restaurant! {Which is where we had the Shrimp Crostini} We let the kids ride bikes on a beautiful night before getting back in the car to head home. Big Sky is so AWESOME.
Oh here's Isabel just overlooking the falls. There are guard rails here and at most of the tourist-y spots, but in a lot of the park, it is very open and natural, so treking around with kids can be tricky and dangerous. The are learning so much about nature and the mountains though, and we are so grateful and amazed each time we go.
